.....but didn't know where to ask.
So. As I promised, I'm starting the topic.
Haren already aksed me about few things via e-mail. I will post his questions and answers here soon.
If anyone has any questions, need information, specific LARPs schedule, please sent me a Private Message here- I will quote the questions here and answer them, so I won't pass over any of them.
Of course, I encourage to discuss about the differences (for now I can just tell, that they exist and they're not so small) and answers here.
So please, write and I hope I will be able to help you and hopefully convince You to visit one (or more) of our LARPs.

I think he wanted to mention, that there is a place at the border of our Countries, that could be used for a convention for both lands. Am I correct?
Apart from that I'm looking forward to some future LARP cooperation between our Countries. And welcome to our Forum^^

Yes. You mentioned that you will post about polish LARP places, so I thought you would like to know a german place near poland.
Oh and I heard about fighting in poland and russia. In germany we have some rules about fighting, so noone get hurt. Slow down the hit before hitting, don't hit head and vital places. (even in protection and save weapons.)

Smolle, I think, you're overdoin it a little^^
I don't think, they hurt themself for real just because they don't live in Germany
In fact, there are different types also in Germany.
There is also a turnier called "Battle of the Nations" where they fight with real but blunt weapons, but this isn't LARP in fact

Well, that's what I wrote, Black Wolf: only a few rumours about polish LARP...
therefore... let's come to know better! After that the day will dawn when all unverified stories are blown off and we can compete without fences at your LARP-events (and vice versa).

I'd like to know what settings you are playing in. High or low Fantasy? Postapocalyptic? You surely play in a large variety of setting, just as we do. But you mentioned that you're a game master so what does your group do.
Right now I'm getting exited about the idea of cross-border larp experiences, though the thought never crossed my mind before. The number of interesting events around Berlin is limited and it could open new possibilities. To travel to a foreign land (in game I mean) and actually not speaking the language could be a great experience. And you'd have a whole new character-concept too, an interpreter. You see, I'm already fantasizing about it.
So tell me when and were and I will gladly join you!

So, I will try to answers the questions I already got.
Questions from Haren
-Does it work like in German, with players and NonPlayerCharakters?
Yes, mostly of course. Potentially , there could be LARP without NPC, but for thow they exist everywhere. But also, LARPs have their differences. On some, NPC are just regular players with some "scripts"- things they have to do, speciall reactions for different things. On other events, Game Masters are the NPC.
Also, when talking about GM- on some LARPs (for example Fantazjada) they "play" completly unimportant characters, so they can be anywhere ready to help, on some GM are guild (fractions/ team) leaders, on some they play "ghost" role- they don't participate in game, they just "appear" when players need them.
- are you using safe weapons, too (rumours say, that you are using wooden weapons)?
Hah. Yes, the magical technology of latex reached our country. Of course, there were some LARPs ,where players used wooden (or even steel) weapons, but it was long time ago. Such ideas have only reeneactor have, but they are not so popular.
Every big LARP in Poland accepts only "safe weapons" - from big, proffesional companies such as Epic Armoury or Forgotten Dreams, but also (and mostly) self-made safe weapons "boffers" as some call theme.
-what about the costs?
They are not so big (I will talk here about the fee, weapons and equipment is other matter) .....It's hard to compare it to the German though. For example, fee for Fantazjada- four-day day-LARP and additional events in the evening- is about 100 Polish Złotys (PLN) -it's about 25 Euro. Most LARPs and conventions have similar prices (10-40 Euro).
Questions from Cevelon.
-How big is the LARP Szene in your Country?
It's hard to say, really. "LARP Poland"- facebook account, which gathers LARPers from whole Poland has about 1300 members-both chamber and land-LARPers (of course, a lot of LARPers are not members of this group).
For comparison to German LARPs- Fantazjada, Orkon, Fort, Flamberg (biggest Polish land-LARPs) have about 200 players each year (in 2011 Fantazjada's record was 420 players). Polish scene is sadly extremly smaller then German.
How react the public to this topic?
Well, the society is mostly not aware of existace of such thing like LARP. In most cases, they put it into one bag with RPG, cosplay and similar stuff. So, reactions of common people, when they meet LARPers in forest are.....memorable. We don't have any problems, but it's hard to search for approval or appreciation for our hobby.
What kind of genres are popular?
I understand you're asking about "fantasy/steampunk/ postapo etc." The most common is fantasy, majority of biggest LARPs takes places in fantasy universes.
Second to it are Stalker and post-apocaliptic genres, but many of their participants are not LARPers, but common ASG-guys,who are mostly more shooters than actors.
-How many locations do you have?
Hard question. There is no list of "LARPing locations". Each organisator seeks for best and most suitable place for his event. Most big LARPs (Orkon, Fantazjada, Fort) takes places in thesame places for years. In my opinion, best locations are in Silesia, Lower Silesia and Opolskie (lands in Poland- Śląskie, Dolnośląskie i Opolskie).
-What kind of level of Clothes, Armor etc do the main people use?
Hah. Depends from the player, his age, wealth and "dedication" to his hobby. Also from place where he bought his equipment or maked it alone.
Honestly, level of equipment in Poland is much lower than in Germany. The scale is from "This.......is.......really......his.........outfit......?" to really great, reenactor level.
-Are the professional Groups who make events?
Yes, but mustly each group makes one major-event per year. "Fantazjada Association" makes Fantazjada -our flagship event and few smaller activites during whole year (sword-fighting classes, etc.). In Warsaw, there is team which makes a lot of small LARPs/event during whole year.
What Online Portals are often used for the communikation?
Facebook. Also, almoust every LARP have it own forum and website.
-Do you have Pictures of you/your group / normal conventions?

Smolle- as I've answered Haren, we're not killing each other (to often.....) with steel weapons on LARPs, safety is very important but such things as slowing down before hitting does not exist. For me, it's killing the dynamics of LARP. Also, while fighting an armored opponent , he may not feel the hit.
I'm really curious about what You've heard about fighting in Poland . This is not an offence - here in Poland we are also joking about Russian-style of LARPing (which was started by famous "Russian-LARP- paladin" movie).
Tessa-as I said, mosty Fantasy (Warhammer and new universes created by organisators of the LARP). Stalker, some postapo. Some people are trying to create something new, but mostly on chamber-LARPs. Fantazjaday is typical Low Fantasy, the rest of biggest fantasy LARPs are typical High fantasy (there are only few exeptions).
Waiting for more.

For Your information -due to the interest with Fantazjada from abroad, we are working on Eglish version of our Fantazjada 2014 trailer. I'll post it here, when it will be raedy.
And also few other questions from Haren.
- In Germany we are using several keywords for OutTime-incidents to govern the game, e.g.
"Stop"... an immediate interrupt of play
"Time freeze"... for secret actions of the gamemasters
"Sani"... if you need medical help in reality (Sani, Sanitäter = paramedic)
Are there any counterparts to you?
Yes, such word's do exist on every serious LARP. The word's can be different on oteh LARP's , but most on the uses "Pax" ,which is used your "Stop". Why not just "Stop" ? In my opinion-and big group of Game Masters, those words have to be
1. Short, and easy-to-remember.
2. The possibility of using this word in-game should be extremly low.
In that case, "Stop" in not such a good option- it can be used by a city guard chasing a criminal or by a officer, commanding his troopers to stop doing something. One of the LARPs, didn't used "Pax", but...."non-alcoholic beer". Sounds stupid, but when you think about it......I've never heard onany LARP this word used in in-game conversation.
On every LARP there are max 2 "safe words"- we belive, tha if there will be more of them, players will have problems to remember them all.
- Are you playing a certain system with scores ... or "you can what you can express" (in german: DKWDDK)?
Both. DKWDDK (in Poland most people use term "WYSYWIG - what you see is what you get") comed to Poland about 3 years ago, till then it is getting more and more popular. But it is hard system, requires good players and workshops.
The rest of the LARP have other system's. Some skill-and-class based, some with just few "speciality" skills.
- Which polish terms I should learn to understand the magicians - while fighting specifically?
Again, it depends from the LARP. I can't answer for that question now- every major LARP is now re-organising it's system, fixing the bugs discovered during this season. So You will have to wait, decide on which LARP You want to go ,and I will gladly help You.
- You've used the term "Land-Larp"... are there "Sea-Larps" as well? Or is "Chamber-Larp" (in german: Tavernen-Con) the pendant in this case?
Ha. No, my bad.
I've had problem, about how to translate "LARP Terenowy". Now, if thing "open-ground LARP" would better do the job.
"Land-larp" or "open-ground LARP" is one or few day LARP taking place in place, where majority of the terrain is ....well, open. There could be castle, villages, of course, but most time players will spent in the site.
"Chamber LARP" is (in most cases) a LARP, which takes place in one (or few) rooms. Such LARPs are mostly writen fo about 8-20 players, and takes places on conventions.
"Sea LARPs" sadly don't exist yet, but there were few ideas to make one.

First I am new to LARP, just answering as a total noob. Maybe others will say something else.
Well just heard that polish don't try to kill germans or polish. Just heard they hit harder, (And as in german it's common to slow down a hit, so noone gets hurt or the equipment doesn't get damaged.) I would think it's true. But when I see some polish and russians fighting I should run. They seems to try to kill each other.
(Fortunately I don't fight so I don't care for this difference.)
Stop, the german word is Stopp and is a modern word. Using this in Larp is a break. A guard would shout "halt". So Stop is an uncommon word in german LARP. No big deal.
Do you have for the Fantazjada an own ruleset? In german we have 3 or 4 different Rulesets (At least this ones are seld in bookstore, maybe smaller LARPS has other rulesets.) (WYSYWIG is additioal and works with all rulesets).
At which time (uhm month) is this Fantazjada LARP? Maybe it would be interesting to have a "foreign, german" camp.
I know the "Mythodea" is the biggest german LARP. And they have different camps, with different Orga under a bigger Orga. (Or something like this, never participated and don't know if I understand it right.)

Uuuuh... I can't voice "non-alcoholic beer", my lips have convulsions, if I try.
Fantazjada 2014... I think, I'll be there... but I'll never go on foreign travel to play in a "German Camp" - it's like holiday in Mallorca.
@Smolle:
"And as in german it's common to slow down a hit, so noone gets hurt or the equipment doesn't get damaged". That's a nice declaration of intent, but in reality... mmmmh... some of the time it is... mmmh... "different".

I'm interested, too. Haren, give me a hint just when your specific planning for this event starts. Looking forward to a foreign expedition to play together
